Thi 24 game looks like so much fun!  The graphics are so realistic!  I hope I get a copy!

Jack Bauer’s got another busy day on his hands. The world is about to end, terrorists are running around with guns and bombs, poison gas is about to be unleashed upon an unsuspecting public, and his super-hot daughter is about to start an internship at CTU.

At the end of this month, 2k Games and Sony Computer Entertainment Europe’s Cambridge Studios will release the long-awaited 24: The Game. The game takes place between seasons two and three of the television series and features the voice work of cast members Kiefer Sutherland (playing Jack Bauer), Carlos Bernard, Tony Almeida, Elisha Cuthbert (playing Kim Bauer) and James Badge Dale (playing Chase Edmunds). The storytelling is tight and reminiscent of the series, thanks to a script by show writer Duppy Demetrius.

24: The Game promises to shed light on some longstanding unanswered questions, namely how Kim started her internship at her dad’s office (who unsuccessfully tried to kill President Palmer), and how Jack and Chase became partners. Oh, yeah…there’s also a terrorist plot that needs to be solved in one day’s time.

We had a chance to play a near-complete build of the game, which is a predominantly a third-person shooter with a healthy dose of puzzles and mini-games thrown in to keep things interesting. There are also some driving levels, which is a prerequisite for any game set in Los Angeles. Players will assume the role of Jack, Tony or Chase as they race against the clock in order to save the world. The missions vary, depending on where the storyline twists and turns to. In some cases, players will enter the scene guns a blazin’, and in others, stealth is the name of the game.

The shooting and driving are all standard fare. Nothing is re-invented here, which isn’t to say we are disappointed. From what we played so far, it’s a solid current-generation action title. The interrogation mini-game is one of the more interesting parts of 24: The Game. It’s very similar to the interrogations that we saw in THQ’s The Punisher…the player needs to add just the right amount of pressure, or either way, they’ll wind up with nothing. Different tactics yield different results; being nice and calming may ease the nerves of a perp, but if they get too comfortable, they’ll walk all over you. On the flip side, being too aggressive will cause the detainee to have a freakin’ heart attack and drop dead. The player is prompted at points to select the demeanor of the interrogation, and in a Choose Your Own Adventure style of gameplay, the results transpire while a monitor watches the heart rate of the detainee.

The game looks and feels just like the show; the character models are spot-on and more importantly, all the in-and-out sliding cutscenes are present. The cutscenes occur throughout the game, even during gameplay. When they occurred during gameplay, it was a little distracting at first, but it didn’t take away from the experience, just added to the excitement.

The game hits stores at the end of this month, exclusively for the PlayStation 2. One of the worst parts of 24 is waiting an entire week for the next episode to air, so now 24 fans will be able to get their Jack Bauer fix while they await the resolution of the latest cliffhanger. Via UGO
