At CTU Audrey Raines is telling Buchanan where security people need to be put to protect the president. Then Edgar comes in to show him video of who they think might be Palmer’s shooter. 
It’s fake! It shows video of Jack in the building before Palmer was shot. Audrey is shocked!
Chloe is asking Jack what’s going on. He tells her that he was set up. She says he should get out of there. He says he wants to know who’s behind it. He asks her to help him get information about building schematics and where the security people are. Derek asks how he could kill that guy. He doesn’t want to go with Jack but Jack forces him.
Back at CTU they think the video hasn’t been doctored. Now they know Jack isn’t dead. Audrey says it doesn’t explain why he would want to kill David Palmer. He tells her about the phone conversations between Jack and Tony and Michelle. They know they helped him fake his death.
Audrey leaves to tell the president about Jack.
They figure out that Chloe was involved with Jack as well. They put an alert for Jack saying that he’s the primary suspect in the murder of the president. That he should be considered armed and dangerous.
Cummings believes Martha Logan about the phone call from David Palmer. The president still doesn’t believe it. Cummings decides to get her phone call records. Audrey calls to tell the president that they think Jack Bauer killed Palmer. The president doesn’t believe it. They ask why. Audrey says they think he did it because Palmer knew he was alive. She says they should postpone the summit until Jack is detained.
A man is looking at TV screens of news about the day’s events talking to a man about the shooter. They’re talking about a launch in less than an hour.

Chloe is driving looking freaked out. Diane calls ‘Frank’ worried. She asks where she should meet him. She asks to talk to Derek. He tells her that he’s ok but has to go.
8:15
Chloe pulls up at the crime scene where palmer was killed. A guard asks for credentials and then lets them through. She parks in an underground parking lot and tells Jack we’re clear. He opens his bag and pulls out an earpiece. Chloe is tracking the agents. She says there are over 120 agents there, he says he knows but hopes that will be the last place they’re looking for him. 
He leaves and walks up to an FBI guy. He makes some small talk then grabs the guy and hides behind a car. Chloe and Derek are a bit worried. Then Jack comes out with the FBI guy’s uniform on. (hmm, he sure was gone for a while…)
Jack goes inside the building and Chloe tells him that Palmer’s apartment is the penthouse. She says there are four agents at the lobby and that he should hold off if he can, but the elevator is already headed there so it’s too late.
The elevator stops and jack gets out
8:19
He’s going into the apartment while Chloe tells him there are bedrooms without agents. Jack takes off his sunglasses and looks sadly at his dead friend who’s covered by a white sheet. He pauses for a while then heads into a study. He asks Chloe to tell him if anyone comes in. Derek asks Chloe why she’s calling him Jack. She tells him that he was a secret agent. Derek wants to know more but she says she can’t say. Derek asks her to at least tell him why he went undercover and she tells him how people wanted him dead and he faked his death to protect his kid. Derek is surprised to find out Jack has a daughter. (little does he know she’s an extremely HOT daughter played by Elisha Cuthbert;))
Jack finds Palmer’s computer. He found a decrypted file and he sends information about it to Chloe. Someone came into the room and it turns out to be Wayne Palmer. Jack tells him that he was his friend and is being set up. Wayne is angry and upset. Jack says why would I be here and why would I no have killed you if I wanted Palmer dead. Jack gives Wayne his gun. Wayne points it at him and Jack goes and sits down at the desk. Wayne cries and puts the gun down.
8:24
Mrs Logan is watching a news report about Palmer and crying. Evelyn comes in and does up her shirt. Cummings comes in and asks for a word in private. He says the president asked him to look into the phone call. He asks what time the call was. Martha knows the president doesn’t believe her. Cummings won’t say. She tells him to leave.
Jack asks Wayne if David said or did anything strange that morning. Wayne says he didn’t have a chance to. Chloe says she just finished encrypting the file. It turns out to be his memoirs. They start to check it with the printed copy to see any differences.
8:26
At CTU Edgar and Spenser are arguing about Chloe. Edgar tells him Chloe’s Access code. He tries to sign in but the system says she’s already logged in. They realize that she’s logged in remotely and still alive. Edgar calls Buchanan to tell him that they can find Chloe. He tells him that she’s at Palmer’s apartment. Buchanan thinks Jack put her up to it in order to clean up some traces that he may have left behind in the building. Buchanan calls the secret service field director to find Chloe and Jack. Audrey still believes Jack is innocent. (aww she still loves him!)
Commercial: 8:26-8:32
Some bad guys are loading a truck full of weapons when they get a call from the boss guy.
Meanwhile Jack and Wayne find a discrepancy between the printed version of the memoirs. It’s an address at the Ontario Airport. (I thought, Ontario Canada at first, but then my husband told me there’s a city named Ontario in California.)
Chloe tells him that secret service is changing it’s deployment. Jack realizes that they’ve figured out he’s there. Wayne offers to help him get out of there, but Jack says no, he can’t be connected to him and until they figure out what they found he can’t tell anyone. Wayne understands. 
Jack says he’s going to do everything he can to find out who did that to his brother.
He leaves the room and sees a lot of agents. He asks Chloe for another way out. She suggests through the kitchen. He beats up an agent and then slips out into the hallway. Some police officers get out of the elevator holding pictures of Jack maybe? Jack gets into the elevator when they leave and asks Chloe where he should go next. She says they cut off access to her grid so she doesn’t know where the agents are. He gets off at the second floor and heads for a stair well. He beats up some guy and continues to run.
Chloe is looking worried in the Van in the parking lot until Jack jumps in. He asks about the information she found then a bunch of agents say Jack step into view with your hands in the air.
8:36
Chloe drives out of the parking lot and the agent tells the many cops not to fire. They surround her and force her out of the van. They look in the back and Jack’s not there. Hmm…where are Jack and Derek?
They cuff Chloe.
Jack breaks into a car and tells Derek to get in. Jack hotwires the car.
8:38-8:42 commercial
Jack calls Diane and asks her where she is. He tells her to go to the Ontario airport. He apologizes for getting her involved in that.
An agent calls Buchanan to tell him that they have Chloe. Buchanan asks to talk to her. Chloe tells him everything. They ask where Jack is but she won’t tell them. She thinks they don’t believe he’s innocent and just want to arrest him. Buchanan tells the agents to bring her back to CTU. He hangs up and tells Curtis to head to the refinery and tells Edgar to make sure Chloe goes into a holding cell when she gets back.
8:44
Derek tells Jack that Chloe told him about what he used to do. Derek wants to know why he lied. Jack says he never wanted any of that to happen. He thought he could get a second chance. He says he really does care about him and his mother.
Martha comes in to talk to president Logan. He plays the tape of their conversation for her. He says “this is hardly a matter of national security…” but he wanted to invite them to a some sort of benefit. Martha protests saying hat’s not what he said. President Logan doesn’t believe her. He says her Doctor says that if she doesn’t take her meds she can get disoriented and confused. He says she needs to take her meds.
Audrey thinks Buchanan is wrong and Jack is innocent. She thinks they’re missing something. Edgar comes to tell Buchanan and Audrey that they intercepted some chatter that says that the Summit is a target. Audrey says the President refuses to cancel the Summit, but Buchanan says he may not have a choice. He calls Mike Novick.
8:48
Bad guys are driving in a van getting weapons ready.
Mike comes to tell the president that CTU found out that the Russian President’s helicopter is a target. He says they recommend they reschedule the summit. Logan says no, I’m not doing that. Mike says at least get the president to arrive another way, but the president says then the impact of his arrival will be reduced because the media is waiting for a landing. He says to make sure the secret service protects the airspace and walk away.
Commercial: 8:49-8:54
Jack arrives at the airport and sees Diane. He says he’s sorry to Derek for how he treated him. He tells him to go with his mom. Diane runs to him and hugs him. Jack gets out of the car and walks over to the. Diane demands that he tells her everything that’s going on. He says that his name isn’t Frank, it’s Jack Bauer and that he lied about a lot of things and he’ll explain everything later but right now they need to go to CTU. He says to ask for a man named Bill Buchanan and to say he sent them. She asks what they should tell them when they get there. He says to tell them the truth and walks away.
8:56
Jack walks into the airport and asks for the baggage claim supervisor.
Audrey and Buchanan are watching video of the Russian President’s helicopter. She says so far the air space is all clear. Bill asks Spenser if there’s any news from anyone on the ground. He says no but if they’re going to attack it’s going to be now.
The helicopter lands and the Russian President gets out and shakes Logan’s hand. Buchanan says our intelligence must have been wrong.
Diane and Derek are driving away from the airport when Derek notices men dressed in black jumping out of a truck. He says that’s where Jack went. He think’s something wrong and goes to warn Jack. 
Diane tells him to come back but a security guard stops her. Derek runs in to the airport looking for Jack.
Jack finds Chevensky and tells him to tell him everything he knows. Then the truck the guys came in explodes and Chevensky takes a cyanide pill. Jack tries to get it out of his mouth but it’s too late.
The men are shooting riffles in the airport. 
They kill security guards. They tell everyone to get on the ground and be quiet. Jack’s watching from a side room. The man announces that they won’t be harmed as long as their president complies with their wishes.
Someone calls the head bad guy. It turns out to be the president’s aid, Cummings! He says he altered Palmer’s phone records with Martha Logan before anyone heard them. He says there’s no more evidence that Palmer was trying to warn them about the attack. The head bad guy says he wants to be kept posted on the hostage situation. They hang up.
