Season 6 Episode 7 Thoughts

Tonight’s episode of 24 was all about the Bauer family.  We get a real insight into how messed up Jack’s family life must have been.  After escaping an apparent attempt to off Jack and Dad, they return to capture Graem in his house.  It also becomes increasingly apparent that Jack and Graem’s Wife had a "thing" at some point and the rumour mill continues to churn that the kid is his.  Specifically when Marilyn (Rena Sofer) said to Jack’s father as she was leaving the house, "Keep Josh out of all this."  Also note the scene here where Dad watching someone leaving the house with a briefcase.  My husband thinks this might be a suitcase nuke but I’m pretty sure he’s just nervous because the CTU agents and collecting computer data.  Meanwhile, Jack administers his characteristic interrogation techniques on his hapless brother in an effort to find the location of McCarthy.  Beautiful family dynamics… During the scene, Jack keeps alternating between screaming and crying, turning up the "pain juice" and hugging his brother.  Eventually, Graem seems to crack and spills the beans about being behind last season’s plot to kill David Palmer, frame Jack, and push the US into war with some unspecified terrorist group.  Jack loses control, is kicked out by half the CTU agents on site, and Graem recuperates.  Once revived, Dad enters the room and reveals his true colors.  Daddy was in on it all along and is no longer confident that Graem will keep his mouth shut.  He then administers a fatal dose of some drug and kills his own son, then calls in the agents saying that he had a seizure.  I guess Jack can’t even trust his own family.  How do you all think his Dad figures in to all of this?  Is he just protecting the company or is the mastermind behind it all?

In other news, I was so excited that Missy Crider had so much more screen time this episode considering my interview with her.  I was shocked to see her actively helping McCarthy apprehend Morris O’Brian (Carlo Rota), handcuffing him and driving the car away.  Maybe she won’t turn out to be the good girl at heart like I suspected?  Either way, how obvious was it that Morris would be the unspecified engineer that McCarthy was looking for.  This became even more obvious when Chloe told him about his brother being admitted to the hospital with radiation poisoning because he was so obviously confused… His brother wasn’t supposed to be anywhere near the blast radius.  Do you think Fayed will force Morris to work for him by holding Chloe hostage?  How will they work that one out?  By the way… the kiss on the way out between those two… GROSS!

In the President’s office, the whole situation with Lennox and the Vice President is a bit unnerving.  What do they have going on?  It’s really a shame to see that Karen was blackmailed into resigning… I have a sneaky suspicion that something is going to happen to her during her flight to LA.

The President’s sister Sandra (Regina King), once again, is getting on my nerves as well as her boyfriend Walid (Harry J. Lennix).   He felt ashamed for spying on people who were looking forward to the US getting nuked again?  I would never feel bad for a mob of angry men who tried to beat me to death for monitoring their obvious sympathies for the terrorists.  I don’t really buy the, "they’re only angry at the government because they’re in a detention center" argument.  Maybe 24 threw this in because CAIR and other Muslim groups were upset at the show’s alleged unfair portrayal of American Muslims?  But let’s be honest folks, there’s no other show on television that’s been more equal opportunity about dishing out terrorist roles… from Serbs, to "Middle Easterners" to Chinese to White Americans, both survivalists and high ranking govenrment officials, 24 is NOT systematically singling out Muslims.

All in all, a fun episode.  Look out for next week’s 2 hour action packed episode run.  Is it sweeps again already?
