Season 6 Episode 9 Thoughts

by on February 19th, 2007

Hi Everyone, sorry about the sparse posts recently.  I’ve been quite under the weather all week.  But what exciting episodes!  I won’t go into details about last week’s episode other than to say that I was totally shocked by Missy Crider’s character’s late change of heart.  I really thought she was going to turn out to be one of the "good guys."  I was sad to see her leave the show.

Now onto tonight’s episode.  We learn even more about how utterly dysfunctional Jack’s family truly is.  This week we see Jack’s dad threatening to kill his own grandson for "the company" and "the family" which totally doesn’t make sense given that Josh is his legacy!  I can’t imagine someone going to such great lengths that Jack father has just to protect a company.  There must be something else going on.  Of course, at the end of the episode, he doesn’t kill Jack after all but leaves him a mysterious text message on his phone.  Guess who’s number it was?  Surprise surprise, it was ex-President Charles Logan.  He now looks extra evil sporting the Saddam in the spider hole look with wild hair and beard.  Last season Logan just seemed like the pawn of the conspiracy.  Now he seems to have more of a commanding role in it all.  I wonder what has happened to him in the last few years and how he’s connected to everything.

I found myself cringing multiple times this episode when Jack and Graem’s wife Marilyn kept having awkward moments of sexual tension.  It really didn’t seem to add much to the plot and didn’t seem particularly plausible given that her son was being held hostage most of the episode.  What really got me was when she was taking off her shirt to put on the bulletproof vest, and at first Jack looked away, but then took a peak.  I suppose being locked up in a Chinese prison and being tortured nonstop for two years can make you a bit sex starved?

As for Chloe and ex-husband Morris O’Brian, more silly moments between these two: Are you okay? Yes, I’m okay.  Are you really really okay? Yes, I’m okay.  Are you drinking? No I spat it out… At least he didn’t "metabolize" it.  Who talks like that anyway?  While Morris is busy feeling sorry for himself, the national security crisis continues and CTU seems no closer to catching Fayed or Gredenko.  Not really surprising that he managed to escape his safe house in the time that Jack spent rescuing Marilyn and negotiating with his father.  Speaking of killing time, what was with Jack’s "I’m Sorry I Wasn’t a Good Enough Son" soliloquy while he thought his dad was holding him at gunpoint.  You let him get away!

Finally, to the President’s bunker and Tom Lennox’s flirtation with treason.  His aide, played by Chad Lowe, brings Tom deeper into the plot to kill the president and tries to convince him to sign an order allowing the assassin into the building.  Lennox initially goes along with it, but then is called in to speak with the president.  When President Palmer demonstrates that he still values Tom’s input, he recants and attempts to back out of the conspiracy.  Only it’s too late, Lowe’s character overhears him calling security, and attacks him knocking him unconscious.  Has anyone else noticed their relationship seems a bit homoerotic?  The way Chad Lowe’s character gets so upset when he finds out Lennox has betrayed him, it’s not just about the plan… It appears to be a personal affront on a very deep level.  "I tried to protect you, I said you could be trusted, how could you do this to me???"  In the previews for next week, we see that he’s planning on making it look like Lennox committed suicide.  Although I loved Peter MacNicol on Ally McBeal, I can’t say I’m going to miss his character on 24 who was quite the spineless weasel.  The real question will be if the President survives next episode’s assassination attempt!

Stay tuned for more exciting episodes of 24!
