Could 24 Be Delayed Until 2009 Due To Strike?
IGN thinks that if the writers strike lasts longer than one month, 24 won’t make it to the air at all:
Fans won’t be happy about this. The promotional push for Season 7 had already begun, but given the situation, the show might not debut at all this TV season. Because of the heavily serialized nature of the series and the specific 24 hours over 24 episodes format, FOX and the producers are debating whether it’s worth airing only the first few episodes of the season, only to have the storyline be cut off for an unknown amount of time. Sources IGN spoke to have heard that the show has enough scripts completed to only get them through around episode 10 of the season. Beyond that, if production can’t resume within a month, it’s almost certain to ensure that the show won’t be able to complete 24 episodes this season and thus won’t be airing at all. Presumably the completed episodes would be held for whenever production does resume and air together during the 2008 - 2009 TV season.
While I personally think that IGN is jumping the gun, if the strike were still on in January, then I’d worry.

Fellow 24 fans. Dont get to carried away with whats floated to the media from either side. Scare tactics and propaganda are common place among labor disputes to get public support and a speedy resolution to the conflict favoring one specific side. I support the WGA in their grievance. But I have one question. Will we be having this problem again when the SAG contract expires?

Damn it Damn it Damn it. We all have been waiting since last May. This definitely stinks. Realty TV is hopeless. At least this show had a plot.

It is an insult to me personally if there is any chance of the show being delayed another year. When this conflict is resolved finish the show and air it. The fans who have made 24 what it is deserve at least that.

I’m a 24 fan,but it seems to me that you (producers) are not starting season 7 because the last season was a complete failure and you dont want to repeat yoursel, and this stupid strike is not helping. So end the series and make the movie.

OK, sure the writers want more money, but perhaps they can prove that they deserve this by doing somthing (ie their job) other than sitting on their butts feeling sorry for themselves. You don’t get paid for doing nothing!!! Season 6 was not THAT bad and they can certainly make season 7 better. It is only through quality work that those DVD sale profits are going to come in. If you want money, fine, but you’d better start doing somthing to get the money flowing in!!!

Except the problem is, they’re currently getting 4 cents for every DVD box set sold. They’re asking for 8 cents.
So my your estimation ‘me’, they can only get those 8 cents if they work hard for them? Because the past 6 years of writing 24 episodes a year don’t justify that?

im not sure what ‘my your estimation’ means, but im not saying those last seasons, were not good, but that 4 cents was the set amount. if they want to change that, more dvds need to be sold, and people arent going to buy the old seasons again. Its up to the negotiators to decide the pay, but there wont be anything if theres no product

I predict that this delay is the death nell for the series. Fans will just not be able to wait forever.

It won’t be the death, but I would be seriously surprised if the show came back with the same numbers it had in the past few seasons.
Don’t expect this to just be 24 though, the last strike in 1988 saw 10% of the television viewing audience go away for good.

It really stinks. I’ve been waiting for so long, now I’m starting to lose momentum which I’m sure others are too. Get over the snag and air the show.

The official website still says Jan 2008.
Any updates as to where production is with Season 7 and when it might be aired?
