Joel Surnow on Jack Bauer

Joel Surnow, executive producer of 24, recently spoke to a group of young conservative activists in Washington, and of course, the topic of 24 came up. Below is an except of Surnow’s comments to the students about Jack Bauer:
He described the Fox network series’ protagonist, counterterrorism agent Jack Bauer, as “a tragic character” who has been emotionally damaged by his experiences.
“There’s nothing left but to do the right thing,” Mr. Surnow said of the character portrayed for seven seasons by Keifer Sutherland. “He’s come to symbolize this sort of pure killing machine that all of us secretly want to unleash on the bad guys.”
The character “really represents just justice,” he said, describing Bauer’s attitude as, “They’re bad, we’re good and we’re going to get them.
When Surnow (a staunch conservative) was asked by a student why he hired liberal Janeane Garofalo, he took the professional answer, saying, “Because she’s a great actress.”
Joel:
PLEASE keep 24 free of liberal politics. I am not even asking you to be “balanced.” The heaviest Conservative “spin” you can put on 24 could not even begin to “balance” the insane Liberal Spin that dominates the entire media today.
As for so-called “global warming” ala Michael Moore and Al Gore – it WILL be proven to be bunk and nothing but a far Left-Wing attempt to cripple American Capitalistic superiority.
How do I know? In my foolish youth I used to be “among em.” And sat in many meetings where this very strategy was crafted and planned.
Now there is the makings of a plot for 24 that could open a lot of eyes in America and do some good.
Seriously, your program is GREAT. Keep it great by keeping liberal drivel out of it.
