Ausiello on Season 7’s Return Date

by Diana on November 29th, 2007

News has been leaking about a resolution to the writers’ strike within the next few weeks. That of course puts Fox in a position to have to decide when exactly they should air 24. The show would still be behind schedule and would not have enough episodes to run consecutively, if it were to start early in the new year. Ausiello, addressed this issue head on in a recent AA question:

Question: If the writers’ strike comes to an end soon, can 24 still make the 2008 schedule? — Allan

Ausiello: That’s a very good question. And, in light of reports that a deal could be imminent (please God let it be true), it’s one Fox is wrestling with as we speak. One unsubstantiated rumor currently making the rounds is that the network may opt to split the current season of 24 in two, airing the first 12 episodes in the spring and the last 12 in the fall. Not sure how I feel about that. Actually, that’s a lie. I’m fairly certain I hate it.

I’m taking this ‘unsubstantiated rumor’ with a big grain of salt.  Fox delayed 24 because it wanted it to be able to run consecutively.  Doing two batches of 12 episodes would defeat that purpose, and considering Fox has American Idol returning in January, they are the least desperate of the major network’s, with few programming holes to fill.  Saving 24 for fall would help ease their upcoming development season.

    Great news.
hopefully the strike will be resolved ASAP and the writers will get what they want. Also, I hope they will be able to run a consecutive 24 season 7 non-stop 24 episodes starting spring. Great job writers and I support you and hope u get what you deserve. Let season 7 of 24 start ASAP. GO TONY ALMEIDA!
