It’s no secret that the producers of 24 initially wanted Season 7 to start in Africa, but the idea was shot down by Fox executives. Now 24 executive producer Manny Coto is saying that idea hasn’t entirely been thrown away. Apparently the two hour season 7 prequel that will air sometime this fall will feature Jack Bauer in Africa. According to Coto, Jack’s “a soul in turmoil and has been moving from place to place trying to find somewhere he can be at peace. But he winds up in Africa in the middle of a military coup.”
How will this tie into Season 7? Apparently Jack’s spiritual journey occurs just when he’s summoned to speak in front of the Senate about his torturing past, which is something we saw in the season 7 teaser trailer.
Jack in a military coup? Sounds interesting, but hopefully they’ll be able to weave in other 24 characters. If it’s just two hours of Jack kicking ass, I may be a little disappointed. I said a little.
Jumping the Cougar

Every long running show has a ‘jump the shark’ moment, a moment when something so ridiculous happened, there was no turning back. For Boston.com writer Matthew Gilbert and his 14 tragic jump the shark moments, one tops the list, Kim Bauer and the cougar. Odds are you’ve blocked this portion of the second season from your memory, but if you haven’t you vividly remember Kim Bauer’s ‘valiant’ battle with the animal trap and then, the cougar.
For Gilbert, it signaled a change in 24, ” You could feel the writers pulling muscles reaching for plot filler, trying to kill time as the second season dragged on. When Kim met the cougar, it became too clear that “24” is a great idea that never quite maintains its tension. We’d already seen Kim deal with many perils, but the cougar — it was shark jumping at its most brazen.”
What do you think, is the cougar 24’s only jump the shark moment, or are there others? Let me know in the comments. And finally, I’ve said it once, and I’ll say it again, I wanted that damn cougar to win.
24 is the 8th Best Show Ever
April 29, 2008 by Diana
Really, it made the top 10. At least according to the New York Post’s list of the Greatest TV Shows in history. Why’d they rank 24 near the top? Well, because it “shamed other cop dramas with its movie-size action, its breakneck plotting, but most of all its immediacy. After 24, you can’t pretend your characters don’t live in the real world. Now, the clock is always ticking.”
So now I throw this out to you, my totally biased audience, do you think 24 belongs near the top of the best shows in TV history? I’m not entirely sure, decade yes, but of all time?

Colm Feore Says ‘Reshoot, Reshoot, Reshoot’
April 27, 2008 by Diana
24 resumed shooting its 7th season in early April, but apparently the writers strike led to some changes. Colm Feore, who will be playing First Husband Henry Taylor, spoke to Quebec talk show ‘Tout le monde en parle’ about the new season saying that “lots of scenarios have changed, and they have even gone back to re-shoot scenes, changing entire story-lines.”
While re-shoots are common on any series, intensive re-shoots after a major strike may mean someone rethought some things….hopefully for the better.
Happy Birthday Eric Balfour
Eric Balfour, Milo Pressman during seasons 1 and 6 of 24, turns 31 today. Balfour’s Pressman wasn’t exactly a fan favourite, he disappeared after season 1, only to reappear without explanation during season 6, where he was a part of the most ridiculous love triangle in 24’s history.
My favourite Milo moment? In his first episode during 24’s inaugural season, Milo showed up to check out the autopsy of an unknown male, as he walked into the autopsy room, he was eating away, completely unaware that food in a morgue was kind of … off. It was a classic 24 moment, one that Dana Scully would have been proud of, if she weren’t a fictional character that is.

Kiefer Sutherland Hits The Gas Station
Kiefer Sutherland made a surprise appearance on the season finale of Corner Gas last night. Corner Gas, which is Canadian, features the antics of a gas station attendant in a small Saskatchewan town. Kiefer’s appearance was short but sweet, playing an amped up version of himself, one that spends all day in his robe and lives with his mother, Shirley Douglas. Check out the clip below:
Canadians can stream the entire episode of Corner Gas at CTV’s website.
Kim Raver’s One Hot Traveler

Season 7 Cast Photo: Real or Fake?
April 21, 2008 by Diana
You may have seen the above season 7 cast photo leak online this past weekend, and I’m sure you got excited, but with no official release from FOX, it could very well be a fake. Each cast member has obviously been photoshopped in, and there was no attempt at creating natural shadows. The background is also a bad stock Washington photo. But on the other hand, Annie Wersching’s pinstripe shirt, Cherry Jones’ outfit and Mary Lynn Rajskub’s green top all match the official trailer that was released in January.
At first I was sure it was a fake, but now I’m now I’m thinking it’s just a really bad official photo. Also awful? Whoever decided to put Janeane Garofalo’s Agent Gold in purple tights. That’s just wrong.
What do you think, real or fake?

Happy Birthday Gregory Itzin
April 20, 2008 by Diana
Gregory Itzin, portrayer of my personal favourite 24 president, Charles Logan, celebrates his 60th birthday today. Last seen getting stabbed with a kitchen utensil by ex-wife Martha (Jean Smart), Itzin’s Logan was incompetent, hysterical and a little bit evil. His brief re-appearance in season 6 reminded fans exactly what the show was missing, characters we really cared about.
24Headquarters wishes Gregory Itzin a great birthday.
