Jean Smart Nominated for Emmy
While 24 was out of contention this year because it has not aired in FOREVER, Jean Smart did manage to pick up a nomination. Smart was nominated as best supporting actress in a comedy for her work as Regina Newly, in ABC’s Samantha Who.
This is Smart’s fifth Emmy nomination, the previous four were for two guest performances on Frasier (which she won), and both a regular and guest nomination as Martha Logan on 24.
The Emmy award’s will be announced on September 21st.
24 Not Welcome at Emmy’s This Year
June 26, 2008 by Diana
For the first time ever the Emmy’s have released the lists of the short listed comedy and drama shows, five of which will get nominated in each category. The shortlisted drama’s range from House, to Dexter to Mad Men. 24 is however not on the list, simple because it did not air this year.
On a bright note, Glenn Morshower’s (Agent Aaron Pierce) Friday Night Lights did make the drama shortlist, and that’s good news because it’s the best damn show on television.

24 Wins Sag Award
January 29, 2008 by Diana
24 may not have been nominated in any of the main acting categories at the SAG awards this past weekend, but they did manage to take home the one award they were nominated for - outstanding stunt performance in a series. There’s no doubt that despite the varying quality of the individual seasons, the stunts on 24 have always been impeccable. Congrats to the stunt crew, especially since they’re the ones who rarely get recognized.
Elisha Cuthbert Nominated for Razzie
The Razzie nominations were announced yesterday and Elisha Cuthbert managed to snag a nomination for Worst Lead Actress (Captivity). She’s up against Lindsay Lohan (the front runner in my opinion), the girls from Bratz, Jessica Alba and Diane Keaton. Some tough competition and unfortunately I haven’t seen Captivity yet, so I cannot judge how bad her performance truly was.
The Razzie’s are presented each year as a celebration of cinema’s worsts, while also being a spoof of Hollywood award shows. The Razzie’s will be announced on February 23rd, the day before the Oscars. Expect none of the nominees to appear.
People’s Choice Results: Sutherland Loses, Smart’s A Hit
January 9, 2008 by Diana
Kiefer Sutherland lost Best Male TV Lead last night to Grey’s Anatomy’s Patrick Dempsey at the People’s Choice Awards. Not exactly shocking to lose to the man America calls McDreamy. I’m sure it didn’t help that the public (the people voting), hadn’t seen an episode of 24 in such a long time.
While Kiefer lost, Jean Smart’s Samantha Who came out on top, winning Best New TV comedy. Smart was present as lead Christina Applegate accepted the award (via tape). Samantha Who is about a young lawyer suffering from amnesia who is forced to
rediscover who she really is.
Smart plays Applegate’s eccentric
mother, Regina.
Reminder: People’s Choice Awards Air Tonight
January 8, 2008 by Diana
The 34th Annual People’s Choice Awards air tonight at 9pm EST on CBS. Kiefer Sutherland is nominated for Best Male TV Star. He represents 24’s only nomination.
Due to the writers’ strike, the ceremony won’t be conventional with a red carpet and traditional acceptance speeches, but rather magazine style. If Kiefer Sutherland were to win, the likelihood of him having any form of taped acceptance would be rare, due to his recent incarceration.
24 Shut Out Of SAG’s
First the Golden Globes, now the Screen Actors Guild. 24 has been shut out of the Screen Actors Guild nominations, receiving none for ensemble or individual actors. This comes after 24 received no nominations for the 65th Annual Golden Globes. What’s even worse? The Chicago Tribune’s Maureen Ryan, listed season 6 of 24 on her Low Point’s of 2007 list, saying,
I stopped watching “24” halfway through its sixth season, and had to force myself to play catch-up late in the season. I did so while painting the basement, and unfortunately that old paint-drying analogy did come to mind.
Although, she’s not exactly wrong about season 6.
24 Shut Out of Golden Globes
December 13, 2007 by Diana
The Golden Globe nominations were announced today and 24 was shut out entirely. Not a single nomination for the show. Well, here’s hoping for next year..or should we be hoping that 24 will air next year? Argh, I don’t know what to think anymore.
The 65th Annual Golden Globes will air Sunday January 13th, 9/8c on NBC. Expect this year’s show to be very interesting since lots of A-listers have announced they will not attend if the writers strike has not been resolved.
