Bad, Badder, Baddest 24 Villains

June 20, 2008 by Diana

24 has had its fair share of villains, some pretty bad, some pretty bland (Behrooz Araz anyone?). Villains on the show are often dime a dozen, with fans loving some and hating others. What villain’s been your favourite? I’m thinking Nina, just because she had 84 lives before Jack finally took her out.

In addition to being an actor and a yoga instructor, James Morrison is also a film producer. He’s currently working on a documentary film titled Showing Up, about the process an actor goes through while auditioning. Showing Up features a slew of actors including 24’s Mary Lynn Rajskub, Gregory Itzin and Janeane Garofalo.

Check out the interview below to hear Morrison talk about Showing Up, and 24’s affect on his career and well being:

What Do You Want to Happen in Season Seven?

June 20, 2008 by Diana

24 fans have had a lot of time to reflect on the events of past seasons, particularly the shortcomings of season six.  What I want to know from  you is what you hope to see, or what you hope you won’t see in season seven?

24Season7CastPhoto

I know I want the following things:

  • Strategically planned out arcs but he writers.  No more flying by the seat of their pants.  Hopefully the 24 crew have learned from Lost, in that having a detailed plan is a good thing.
  • The return of Chloe O’Brian as a lead, rather than an extra.  Season six saw Chloe go through many episodes uttering only a few lines of dialogue.  The few plots she got were tepid at best, and the introduction of Morris did nothing but take screen time away from Chloe. That’s no way to treat a fan favourite.
  • No more character filp-flopping.  Audrey Raines may havebeen a decent character during season four but Kim Raver’s scheduling complications sidelined Audrey, leaving the writers no choice but to kill her.  Of course Raver’s show The Nine was quickly canceled and Audrey was suddenly alive again, except the writers had no purpose for the character.  She was easily rescued by Jack is what could have been a more effective plot had it been prolonged, and when she returned, she was damaged goods.  The writers should have left her dead, but they obviously had no plan.

What do you want or don’t want to see in Season seven?

Jack Bauer is 52 Years Old, But Not Really

June 20, 2008 by Diana

JackBauerSeason624I reported last night that Prescott O’Brian’s age was a giveaway for that fact that four years will have passed between seasons six and seven, and the New York Post did the same numbers, and confirmed the passage of years with Fox.  However they also did some interesting math and discovered that 17 years will have passed between seasons one and seven.  Considering we were told that Jack was 35 in season one, if you do the math, Jack Bauer would be a staggering 52 years old when season seven begins.

Continuity error anyone?  But that doesn’t matter to Fox, who released the following statement about the time gaps between seasons, “We’ve always built in significant passages of time between seasons of ‘24‘ for dramatic purposes.  Luckily, like all great iconic characters, Jack Bauer is ageless.”

That right there?  That’s PR at its best.

Mary Lynn Rajskub Shoots Em Up

June 20, 2008 by Diana

What do you know when you’re a celebrity out to protect your unborn baby? You get a rifle and learn to shoot. At least that’s what Mary Lynn Rajskub’s done, all in the name of security.

Not ashamed to admit that that put a smile on my face.

Which Bauer Girl Do You Like Most?

June 20, 2008 by Diana

No, this is not about Kim, but rather the romantic interests in Jack Bauer’s life. He’s committed to his country, and he’s committed to his women. It’s just too bad they most likely end up dead or mentally destroyed. Jack’s had a wife, an affair, a few short term relationships, and what looked like another shot at great love, but unfortunately everything went to hell in a hand basket for Jack Bauer and love in Season 6. He finished the year having left Audrey, knowing that no matter how hard he tried, he’d never be able to take care of her properly.

It wouldn’t be out of the realm of possibility to think that Jack will end up with another love interest in season seven, Annie Werschung’s character perhaps? But until then, what Bauer love did you love most? Vote in the poll below, and then let me know why in the comments:

Mary Lynn Rajskub Won’t Be in the Season 7 Prequel

June 20, 2008 by Diana

MaryLynnRajskubasChloeO’BrianSeason6of24DAMNIT. Korbi Ghosh from Zap2It has just broken my heart by breaking the news that Chloe will not appear in the 24 season 7 prequel at all. Nothing. Nada. Zilch.

Ghosh also confirmed that Chloe won’t be pregnant when the show returns, but that’s not a shock to anyone who reads this blog, considering Chloe’s son Prescott will be between 3 and 4 when the show comes back in January. And considering most of Chloe’s scenes take place around a computer, it’s not hard to believe that the show will be able to hide Mary Lynn Rajskub’s real life bump entirely.

I really hope this doesn’t continue the trend set in season six with Chloe practically becoming an extra. The writer’s really lost focus of her character and either gave her absolutely nothing to do, or stuck her in the middle of the most absurd love story on Fox. Keep in mind that it’s the network that marries women off to millionaires, and pays uglies to have life altering plastic surgery.

Jean Smart Reflects on Losing the Emmy

June 20, 2008 by Diana

JeanSmartMarthaLogan24Season5No matter who interviews Jean Smart about her illustrious career (currently she can be seen on ABC’s Samantha who) the topic of conversation always ends up being Martha Logan, season five’s stand-out First Lady.

TVSquad recently interviewed Smart and she spoke about why she thinks she lost the Emmy in 2006, “Every episode stands alone on other shows, but on 24, it doesn’t. That’s one of the reasons I think that more actors have not won Emmys on 24 is because when you submit an episode to the Emmys, that hour doesn’t really stand alone. It’s totally dependent on what happened the hour before. There isn’t a wonderful arc for your character in that hour, a beginning a middle and an end. At the same time, it’s a wonderful challenge because you have to be right in the moment.”

No matter how she sugar coats it, she was shafted.

Jon Voight is a Badass

June 20, 2008 by Diana

Last week Jon Voight was announced as 24’s big villain in season seven. While we have few details about his character, we know he’s the mastermind behind whatever terrorist attacks that occur throughout the day. For those of you unfamiliar with Voight, he has been acting steadily since the 1960’s, including appearances in such classics as Urban Cowboy and Deliverance.

But to see Voight in uber badass form, check out the clip below from the horror ‘classic’ Anaconda, where Voight’s evil Paul Sarone escapes capture by killing a ridiculously hot woman in cold blood.

The murder, in combination with his wickedly awful accent shows his true bad ass range.

All joking aside, Voight is a brilliant actor with a Best Actor Oscar for his performance in Coming Home, so I can’t wait to see what he’ll bring to 24.

Eva Longoria Loves Her 24

June 20, 2008 by Diana

Celebrities often love television as must as the rest of us, and 24 definitely has some famous fans. Only a few months ago Kate Beckinsale publicly declared her love for the show, and desire to one day become the head of CTU. Unfortunately for Kate, CTU is no more, but another celebrity fan of 24 is Desperate Housewives’ Eva Longoria. She loves the show partially because it’s awesome, and partially because husband Tony Parker makes her watch. Check out Longoria talking about 24 in the embedded clip below:

At least Tony’s got good taste.
