Martha Logan NOT Returning to 24
July 25, 2008 by Diana
The last time we saw Martha Logan, she had jammed a kitchen utensil into her ex-husband’s neck. At that moment, I knew it was true love. Of course both Martha and President Logan’s fates were left dangling in season six, never to be mentioned again…. Yeah, I know, stupid right? Well the past week or so, rumours have be circulating that Jean Smart may be making an appearance as Martha next season, but Ausiello reports that that rumour is indeed FALSE.
However, that doesn’t mean we’ll never hear about what happened to our favourite crazy blond. Jon Cassar says that we will find out what happened to Martha next year. Also, we’ll eventually get answers as to what happened to Charles Logan when the paramedics took the fork out as well. But the time-line is a little less definitive on that one.
What do you think became of Martha? Do you think Aaron gave up wrangling the crazy and put had her institutionalized? Post your theories below.

Jean Smart Nominated for Emmy
While 24 was out of contention this year because it has not aired in FOREVER, Jean Smart did manage to pick up a nomination. Smart was nominated as best supporting actress in a comedy for her work as Regina Newly, in ABC’s Samantha Who.
This is Smart’s fifth Emmy nomination, the previous four were for two guest performances on Frasier (which she won), and both a regular and guest nomination as Martha Logan on 24.
The Emmy award’s will be announced on September 21st.
Jean Smart Reflects on Losing the Emmy
June 20, 2008 by Diana
No matter who interviews Jean Smart about her illustrious career (currently she can be seen on ABC’s Samantha who) the topic of conversation always ends up being Martha Logan, season five’s stand-out First Lady.
TVSquad recently interviewed Smart and she spoke about why she thinks she lost the Emmy in 2006, “Every episode stands alone on other shows, but on 24, it doesn’t. That’s one of the reasons I think that more actors have not won Emmys on 24 is because when you submit an episode to the Emmys, that hour doesn’t really stand alone. It’s totally dependent on what happened the hour before. There isn’t a wonderful arc for your character in that hour, a beginning a middle and an end. At the same time, it’s a wonderful challenge because you have to be right in the moment.”
No matter how she sugar coats it, she was shafted.

Jean Smart Knows How to Steal a Scene

The New York Times loves Jean Smart, so much so they’ve named her to their ‘Roles of the Season, Maybe a Lifetime’ list, for her performance in ABC’s Samantha Who. But they also highlighted her scene stealing role as Martha Logan on 24 saying, “Nearly every time she has appeared on television in the past few years, you have wanted her to sit tight and stay. As Martha Logan, wife of the weasely, Nixonian commander in chief during the fifth season of “24” (and his ex, briefly and brilliantly this past season), she gave us torment and grievance and righteous fury.
I think we can all agree that Jean Smart was not only stand out in season five, but stole the show when she returned briefly as Martha Logan in season six.
To hear Jean’s take on Martha, check out this talk show interview she did back during season six:
Who’d You Want to Dance With?
February 29, 2008 by Diana
With the recent celeb trend to go on dancing shows, I thought it would be fun to pose the question, which 24 star (past or present) do you think would be a great competitor on Dancing with the Stars?
- Kiefer Sutherland?
- Elisha Cuthbert?
- Jean Smart?
- Kim Raver?
- Mary Lynn Rajskub?
- James Morrison? (He’s big into yoga, so imagine the flexibility!)
- Edgar. You know you’d watch to see if he could make it through a routine, or not.
Let me know in the comments who you think would be a perfect fit, and why. Come on guys, let’s lighten up and have a bit of fun.

February 21, 2008 by Diana
ABC announced yesterday that Jean Smart’s Samantha Who will return to their schedule with six new episodes, starting Monday, April 7th (at 9:30pm). Last week I posted that the series was renewed for a second season.
Jean Smart’s Samantha Who? Renewed for 2nd Season
ABC has renewed Jean Smart’s Samantha Who? for a second season. The show will also return later this season to air its three remaining pre-strike episodes, along with another three episodes that will be produced to follow Dancing with the Stars.
Samantha Who? stars Christina Applegate as a young lawyer suffering from amnesia who is forced to rediscover who she really is. Smart plays Applegate’s eccentric mother, Regina.
People’s Choice Results: Sutherland Loses, Smart’s A Hit
January 9, 2008 by Diana
Kiefer Sutherland lost Best Male TV Lead last night to Grey’s Anatomy’s Patrick Dempsey at the People’s Choice Awards. Not exactly shocking to lose to the man America calls McDreamy. I’m sure it didn’t help that the public (the people voting), hadn’t seen an episode of 24 in such a long time.
While Kiefer lost, Jean Smart’s Samantha Who came out on top, winning Best New TV comedy. Smart was present as lead Christina Applegate accepted the award (via tape). Samantha Who is about a young lawyer suffering from amnesia who is forced to
rediscover who she really is.

Jean Smart Out At John Edwards Rally
January 7, 2008 by Diana
With the New Hampshire primaries just a day away, Jean Smart has been out stumping for democratic candidate, John Edwards.
Smart also wrote this essay saying why she supports Edwards.
Jean Smart Supports John Edwards
January 3, 2008 by Diana
It’s Iowa Caucus day, so that means celebrities will be out in full force supporting the candidates of their choice. Jean Smart (Martha Logan) was no exception, seen here (far left) standing behind democratic presidential candidate John Edwards, as he spoke to supporters in Des Moines.
When asked if she had spoken to Kiefer Sutherland since he entered the Glendale City Jail, Smart said, “Oh, I unfortunately haven’t asked about him.”
Smart currently stars on ABC’s Samantha Who, as the eccentric mother of a woman who has to rediscover who she is after a bout of amnesia.
