The Jack Bauer Effect
March 14, 2008 by Diana
If you’re one of the world’s leading experts on counterinsurgency, people tend to want to hear what you have to say(especially during a war). Lt. Col. John Nagl is that guy, and he recently spoke at a military event, but his speech had a twist. It wasn’t about Iraq directly, but rather about 24 and how it’s affected the opinion of torture and fighting terrorists. (His speech is embedded below.)
Justice Scalia Joins 24
October 4, 2007 by Diana
Supreme Court Justice, Antonin Scalia, is an even bigger Jack Bauer fan than Bill Clinton. Back in July, Justice Scalia used Bauer as an example for why torture is a good thing. He said, “Jack Bauer saved Los Angeles…He saved hundreds of thousands of lives…Is any jury going to convict Jack Bauer? I don’t think so.” What I loved so much about that quote was that Scalia is just like my 85 year grandmother, completely unable to comprehend the fact that Jack Bauer does not exist….folks, I’m not kidding, she loves her wrestling too.
Well Slate shares my sense of humour about Scalia, and have released a video titled, Justice Scalia Joins 24: What If He Acted Like His Hero? Video below (Warning, this will mean nothing to you if you don’t follow politics closely):
So what did you think? Have 24 parodies gone too far?
