24 Not Welcome at Emmy’s This Year

Glenn MoreshowerFridayNightLightsFor the first time ever the Emmy’s have released the lists of the short listed comedy and drama shows, five of which will get nominated in each category. The shortlisted drama’s range from House, to Dexter to Mad Men. 24 is however not on the list, simple because it did not air this year.

On a bright note, Glenn Morshower’s (Agent Aaron Pierce) Friday Night Lights did make the drama shortlist, and that’s good news because it’s the best damn show on television.

Kiefer Sutherland Knows How to Tip

Kiefer-Sutherland-Siobhan-BonnouvrierDuring a break from shooting the season seven prequel in South Africa, Kiefer Sutherland and girlfriend Siobhan Bonnouvrier hit up some of Cape Town’s best restaurants. At one restaurant, their meal cost approximately $125 American, and they left a tip of nearly $40 bucks. I do believe that can be clarified as being highly generous. That’s like 30%, double the suggested tip rate of 15%.

Which brings me to this question, do you think celebrities such as Kiefer should tip dramatically higher than the average because a)they’re loaded, and b)they’re in the public eye?

Bad, Badder, Baddest 24 Villains

24 has had its fair share of villains, some pretty bad, some pretty bland (Behrooz Araz anyone?). Villains on the show are often dime a dozen, with fans loving some and hating others. What villain’s been your favourite? I’m thinking Nina, just because she had 84 lives before Jack finally took her out.

My Favourite 24 Moment: Chloe and the Machine Gun

ChloeO’BrianSeason524For every fan of 24 there’s a stand out moment. That singular moment where you went from liking the show, to loving it. From enjoying that one character, to not being able to imagine the show without them. For me, that moment occurred in Day 4 when Chloe O’Brian left the CTU offices, got herself in a near death moment and promptly got out of it by BLASTING A GROUP OF TERRORISTS WITH A MACHINE GUN.

I still remember watching that moment with a group of friends, sitting there smile plastered on my face. That’s when Chloe took center stage, and even though she would eventually wield a stun gun, and be part of a love triangle, nothing was as great as Chloe and that gun.

James Morrison is Showing Up

In addition to being an actor and a yoga instructor, James Morrison is also a film producer. He’s currently working on a documentary film titled Showing Up, about the process an actor goes through while auditioning. Showing Up features a slew of actors including 24’s Mary Lynn Rajskub, Gregory Itzin and Janeane Garofalo.

Check out the interview below to hear Morrison talk about Showing Up, and 24’s affect on his career and well being:

What Do You Want to Happen in Season Seven?

24 fans have had a lot of time to reflect on the events of past seasons, particularly the shortcomings of season six.  What I want to know from  you is what you hope to see, or what you hope you won’t see in season seven?

24Season7CastPhoto

I know I want the following things:

  • Strategically planned out arcs but he writers.  No more flying by the seat of their pants.  Hopefully the 24 crew have learned from Lost, in that having a detailed plan is a good thing.
  • The return of Chloe O’Brian as a lead, rather than an extra.  Season six saw Chloe go through many episodes uttering only a few lines of dialogue.  The few plots she got were tepid at best, and the introduction of Morris did nothing but take screen time away from Chloe. That’s no way to treat a fan favourite.
  • No more character filp-flopping.  Audrey Raines may havebeen a decent character during season four but Kim Raver’s scheduling complications sidelined Audrey, leaving the writers no choice but to kill her.  Of course Raver’s show The Nine was quickly canceled and Audrey was suddenly alive again, except the writers had no purpose for the character.  She was easily rescued by Jack is what could have been a more effective plot had it been prolonged, and when she returned, she was damaged goods.  The writers should have left her dead, but they obviously had no plan.

What do you want or don’t want to see in Season seven?

Jack Bauer is 52 Years Old, But Not Really

JackBauerSeason624I reported last night that Prescott O’Brian’s age was a giveaway for that fact that four years will have passed between seasons six and seven, and the New York Post did the same numbers, and confirmed the passage of years with Fox.  However they also did some interesting math and discovered that 17 years will have passed between seasons one and seven.  Considering we were told that Jack was 35 in season one, if you do the math, Jack Bauer would be a staggering 52 years old when season seven begins.

Continuity error anyone?  But that doesn’t matter to Fox, who released the following statement about the time gaps between seasons, “We’ve always built in significant passages of time between seasons of ‘24‘ for dramatic purposes.  Luckily, like all great iconic characters, Jack Bauer is ageless.”

That right there?  That’s PR at its best.

Jack Bauer is TV’s Biggest Bad Ass

JackBauerSeason5Being TV’s ultimate bad ass is quite the challenge, unless you’re Jack Bauer. Jack Bauer is without a doubt the baddest ass on TV, so it comes as no shock that he’s been named the baddest bad ass on television by PopSense.

Second place with to Chuck Norris, but come on, Jack could kick Chuck’s ass. He’d do it during a commercial break, that’s how non-eventful slaughtering Chuck Norris would be in one of Jack Bauer’s days. He’s got more important things to do.

What 24 Swag Do You Have?

CTU Academy ShirtYou’re not a true 24 fan unless you’ve got some 24 related merchandise.  For me there’s my prized CTU T-shirt, 24 hat, soundtrack and a collection of books.

Of course I run a 24 blog, so occasionally swag ends up appearing in my mailbox, but what 24 merchandise have you spent your hard earned dollars on?  More importantly, anyone out there have some odd 24 merchandise?  I’m sure readers would love to hear about it.

Has anyone tried the new 24 energy drink, currently available in the UK?  If you have, does it give you the urge to drive around screaming ‘THERE’S NO TIME?’  I’m headed to the UK in July and I intend to hunt down a few cans for a future contest.
